Mantashe Reveals Shocking Truth at David Mabuza

ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe has accused internal party groups in Mpumalanga of pushing the late David Mabuza into contesting for ANC president at the last national conference. He said this was not Mabuza’s own idea but the result of pressure from people within his province.

Speaking at Mabuza’s memorial service on Thursday, Mantashe said some party members encouraged Mabuza to run for president while the national leadership was asking him to stay on as deputy president. He said, “You misled DD yourselves. You told him to contest and even suggested who should be his deputy. Meanwhile, we were trying to convince him to stay.”

Mantashe said this move took Mabuza off course and weakened his standing in the party. According to him, Mabuza was done wrong by the very people who should have supported him.

He Helped Ramaphosa Win the ANC Presidency

Mabuza helped shape ANC leadership in 2017. He joined Mantashe and Mashatile to support Ramaphosa. They split Mpumalanga’s votes to avoid dividing the party.

This move stopped Dlamini-Zuma from getting more power. Mabuza was later appointed deputy president.

Mantashe said Mabuza helped build the current leadership, even though he later stepped back due to pressure.

Private Conversations Before His Death

In one of their last talks, Mantashe said Mabuza spoke about ANC issues. This showed he still cared about the party, even after leaving public life.
