The City of Cape Town has confirmed a planned water shutdown affecting multiple suburbs in July. The maintenance is part of essential upgrades to the water system across parts of the metro.
Saxonsea, Avondale, and Robinvale: Full Day Shutdown
Water will be off from 8:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 in Saxonsea, Avondale, and Robinvale.
The shutdown is for repair work and new water pipes. City workers will fix the water system in these areas.
These areas will have no water for nine hours. The city says people should store water early and use it wisely.
Kirstenbosch and Bishopscourt Areas Also Affected
A separate shutdown will affect parts of Kirstenbosch and Bishopscourt, spread across two days.
A test water outage is planned for 15 July from 10:00 to 14:00. This is a temporary stop to prepare for a larger maintenance effort.
The full shutdown will take place the following day Wednesday 16 July from 9:00 to 16:00. The purpose is to enable a new connection to be installed on the existing water supply line.
Our updates are fast, clear, and fact-checked.

Areas That Will Be Without Water
Residents in the following roads and their surroundings are expected to lose water access during both shutdown periods:
- Kirstenbosch Drive
- St Albans Close
- Riverside Road
The City asks people to prepare and use less water during the cuts.
Glen Garry Reservoir to Undergo Month-Long Maintenance
In addition to the above shutdowns, the Glen Garry Reservoir will be offline from Monday 14 July to Friday 15 August 2025.
This work is part of the Cityโs yearly cleaning plan. This work helps keep Cape Townโs water clean and safe.
During this period, alternative supply routes will provide water to the area, but users may experience lower water pressure than usual.
Water Supply Routing During Maintenance
The following water treatment plants will ensure continued supply to affected zones:
Plant | Pipelines Supplied |
---|---|
Wemmershoek Treatment Plant | Wemmershoek pipeline |
Blackheath Treatment Plant | Link pipeline to Tygerberg Reservoir |
The combined effort from these plants will keep the Tygerberg Reservoir operational, though at reduced pressure levels.
What Residents Should Do
City officials recommend that all affected residents:
- Store enough water before shutdowns begin
- Limit usage during the shutdown hours
- Keep taps closed to avoid flooding when water returns
- Report any faults or low pressure after the restoration period
Keep checking for updates and tell your neighbours. Cape Town is upgrading water systems to make them more reliable.
Stay prepared, and check your area’s schedule to avoid surprises.
