 Program Overview   study in america

The School was first established in 1938 as the Graduate School of Public Administration. In 1989, it was renamed as the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service after the three-term New York mayor who was known for his honesty, his commitment to public service, and his efforts toward social equality.

The Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service (NYU Wagner) is conveniently located in the heart of New York City, famous for both its local communities and international flavor. Students benefit both from a public affairs education in the center of one of the world's most renowned cities and from the diversity of extracurricular activities—many of which are available nowhere else.

NYU Wagner offers advanced programs leading to professional master's degrees in Public Administration and Policy, Urban Planning, and Management. There are opportunities available for students to specialize and to broaden the education they receive. A number of specializations are available in the different degree programs, as is the opportunity to participate in dual degree programs. Regardless of the degree or specialization chosen, NYU Wagner graduates have the skills to excel as public service professionals wherever they find themselves and to develop and implement solutions to society's challenges.

NYU Wagner's programs take an interdisciplinary approach, preparing students to consider multiple viewpoints in their work, and giving students the opportunity to put theory into practice. All programs available at NYU Wagner can be customized to focus on students' particular areas of interest and students may take classes in any NYU graduate school. Flexible schedules meet the needs of today's graduate student—offering the opportunity to study full time or part time, with many evening courses as well. All Master of Public Administration and Master of Urban Planning degree programs require a capstone program designed to synthesize theory, research, analysis, and practice.

The degrees offered at NYU Wagner include
• Master of Public Administration in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy—This program focuses on preparing public service professionals to become leaders in addressing today's complex social issues by exposing students to a diversity of ideas while integrating disciplines and merging ideas with practice.
• Master of Public Administration in Health Policy and Management—In this program, students are prepared to develop innovative health policy and to manage a variety of health programs.
• Master of Urban Planning—This program bridges disciplines and provides students with an understanding of the economic, social and technological forces that shape urban areas around the globe and in NYU Wagner's backyard.
• Master of Science: Management—This program is geared toward mid-career professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of public service, management and leadership with the goal of advancing in their careers.

There are also a number of dual degree options available. Wagner students can pursue their M.P.A. and M.U.P. degree while also earning a law degree, medical degree, M.B.A., or M.A. in Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Master of Science in Management students can pursue an M.S.W. or M.A. degree in Nursing Administration concurrent with their Wagner studies.

Admissions Criteria & Procedures   study in america

NYU Wagner uses a holistic admissions process designed to review the overall potential of applicants to succeed in their studies and their careers. Because of Wagner's admissions review process, even if you have lower grades, you may be accepted to Wagner if you can demonstrate that you can handle graduate course work. Work experience is looked on favorably and, though it is not required, the majority of Wagner students have two or more years of professional experience. Those without that experience will be required to complete an internship.

Applicants must submit a completed online application along with a statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. If applicants wish, they can also submit standardized test scores such as GRE or GMAT, which are not required but are recommended for applicants who have a GPA at or below the suggested 3.1 minimum, who have no background in social science or related courses, or who have been away from formal academic study for 10 years or more. Applicants may be required to have a personal interview if requested by the Admissions Committee. Applicants are also welcome to submit any additional printed materials or documentation that they feel is relevant and will help the Admissions Committee better understand their potential for the program.

International applicants must submit the same materials as above. In addition, they must provide proof of receipt of a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree, official transcripts and official translations of those transcripts (if needed), as well as proof of financial support. International applicants may also be required to submit TOEFL and TWE scores if their undergraduate degree was not in English.

Applicants seeking scholarships must submit their applications by the scholarship deadline to be eligible for merit-based financial aid.
