Many international students choose to live in on-campus residences or dormitories provided by their college or university. These are regulated by the university, generally offer a meal-plan option, and have a fee set by the university.
These residences may offer single-occupancy rooms, require students to have a roommate, or allow students to choose between the two options. They most often have one or two communal bathrooms to a floor, as well as a common room and kitchen or kitchenette. They may be single-sex or co-ed, or alternate by floors, depending on the university's policy. Generally, residences have coordinators or supervisors for each floor and building.
Residences can be an excellent choice for students who wish to balance independence with support and community, and for English Language students who wish to practice their language skills with peers on a daily basis.
